Hand-forged by Toru Tomura and sharpened by Tateo Myojin in Kochi, Japan, this 150mm Kiri-Deba embodies both strength and precision in a compact, workhorse format. Designed for fish prep, it takes the traditional Deba’s thick, weighty spine—ideal for robust tasks like breaking down whole fish—and enhances it with a Kiritsuke-style tip that brings precision and control for detailed work around bones and joints.

Crafted from Aogami Blue #2 carbon steel and finished in a dark, rustic Kurouchi coat, the blade projects confidence and utility. The substantial spine gives it reassuring heft and front-heavy balance, allowing gravity to do the work during tough cuts, while the fine-tuned single bevel (right-handed) glides effortlessly for clean, controlled slices.

Paired at Kakushin with an octagonal handle made from Parker Asahi’s hemp-based synthetic rubber, this setup offers a rare mix of tradition and innovation. Soft to the touch yet firm and water-resistant, it provides exceptional grip even when wet—no fuss, no maintenance.

Assembled and fitted in-house at Kakushin, this knife is a study in balance and intent: a front-weighted blade built for power, refined by a tip made for precision.
